3/18/2024 0 Comments Logitech harmony ultimate remoteI can do most of what I need to do using my LG TV remote and CEC. Haven't tried the Switch due to the others already being lousy. Have to dig out the receiver remote and change inputs again. If it was still on, the receiver doesn't get a switch input signal. If AppleTV was already back asleep, this works. Want to go back to watching AppleTV after playing PS5. Need to get out receiver remote and change input. Input on receiver does not change because AppleTV still on. Watching Apple TV, but decide to play PS5. PS5 could be turned off by turning off receiver from receiver remote. PS5 does not send power off over HDMI CEC. Turn off PS5 from controller, and receiver and TV stay on. Volume cannot be controlled, except to dig out receiver or TV remote (Apple TV remote won't do volume here, because that signal seems to go to Apple TV to be sent to receiver, and AppleTV is asleep). PS5: controller tuns on PS5, causing receiver and TV to come on. Partially resolved by buying new Apple TV remote that has power button. Turning off requires going into Settings app and choosing Sleep Now. Anyone thinking this is a suitable replacement just hasn't experienced a better solution.Īpple TV: remote turns on Apple TV, causing receiver and TV to come on. There are numerous situations that aren't well handled compared with the Harmony. Does having the receiver, AppleTV, Switch, and PS5 constitute four devices in that regard, or are the AppleTV, Switch, and PS5 the three, and the receiver is just on HDMI ARC, so it doesn't really count? LG's manual reports it can do CEC with three devices at a time. Do you just keep an extra remote around for volume? Will the AppleTV remote's volume controls work even if I'm not on its input (or will it at least refrain from causing the input to switch)? The PS5 and Switch controllers don't have volume controls. The LG remote is an abomination, and not on the table to be used. That seems to work for streaming in the other house, and I assume it will also be able to turn the receiver on/off via the TV. I can buy a new AppleTV remote that has volume buttons and a power button (I have the previous version that doesn't have these). My setup: LG CX OLED, Sony STRDN1080 receiver, AppleTV 4k, Nintendo Switch, PS5 This would be a fair amount of rewiring since everything runs through the wall and the receiver is currently switching video to the TV rather than the TV switching to the receiver, so I'm hoping to figure out what will and won't work beforehand. It seems like there are some things that I don't understand in the HDMI CEC world. I realize CEC exists, and our vacation house uses it in a much simpler setup (TV, AppleTV, soundbar) where the AppleTV remote can cover all cases. Spent much of last night searching around, and it seems there isn't a good alternative to it. I've had nearly 10 years of bliss in not being asked how to get the TV to do what anyone wanted it to do, despite having numerous devices (TV, receiver, cable box, AppleTV/Roku, PS4/5, Switch, etc) over the years. And, adding/changing actions was straightforward and simple. The customizable touch screen was fantastic for my household - touch "Play PS5" and the remote knows to turn on the TV, the receiver, and the PS5, then wait 5 second and change the input on the receiver. Having been out of the remote market for so long because that remote has been so good, I didn't realize until now Logitech/Harmony has left the market, and no one seems to make anything comparable. I've tried various means to get it back to health, and it seems like it's met its end. Have been using a Harmony Ultimate since 2013, and the hub has finally gone unresponsive.
